Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-05-09

Version: 0.1-draft

1. Acceptance

By creating an account on HysonLearn or by using any part of our service you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

2. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create a parent account.
  • Child accounts are intended for children typically aged 4 to 11 and must be created and managed by their parent or legal guardian.
  • You confirm that you have the legal authority to create accounts on behalf of any child you add to the service.

3. Accounts

The parent account holder is responsible for everything that happens under their account and any child account they create. Keep your password confidential and let us know straight away if you suspect someone else has accessed your account. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these Terms.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the service for any unlawful, harmful, or harassing purpose;
  • attempt to break, probe, or reverse-engineer the service, or interfere with other users;
  • upload content that is illegal, abusive, or that you do not have rights to share;
  • scrape, copy, or redistribute lesson content for commercial purposes.

5. Beta service and free-of-charge use

HysonLearn is currently a private alpha offered free of charge to invited households. While the service is in alpha:

  • features may change, break, or disappear without notice;
  • data may be wiped between alpha and general release — see the Beta Program Terms;
  • there is no service-level commitment;
  • we may introduce paid plans in future. If we do, existing users will be told in advance and will not be charged without separate, explicit agreement.

6. Intellectual property

HysonLearn, our name, our brand, our lessons, our illustrations, and the underlying software are owned by us or our licensors. You may use the service for personal, non-commercial educational use. You may not copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from our content except as expressly allowed by us.

Anything a child or parent submits to the service (for example, an answer to a question or a voice note) remains owned by you. By submitting it you grant us a limited licence to use it for the purpose of running and improving the service.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular learning outcome will result from its use. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied warranties.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you in connection with the service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Because the alpha service is free, that amount is currently zero. We do not exclude or limit liability where the law does not allow us to (for example, for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud).

9. Termination

You may close your account at any time from the parent dashboard or by emailing us. We may suspend or close an account if these Terms are breached, if we believe a child is at risk, or if we discontinue the service. On termination we will delete personal data as described in the Privacy Policy.

10. Governing law and jurisdiction

If the parent account holder is resident in the United Kingdom, these Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction.

If the parent account holder is resident in Hong Kong, these Terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the courts of Hong Kong have non-exclusive jurisdiction.

For users outside the UK and Hong Kong, the laws of England and Wales apply by default while the alpha is invitation-only.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes we will tell the parent account holder by email and post a banner inside the app. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
