Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 2026-05-09

Version: 0.1-draft

1. Our commitment

HysonLearn is for every child. We are working towards full conformance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. While we are in private alpha we are still building and refining, so some parts of the service may not yet meet that standard. We will update this statement as we improve and after our first formal audit.

2. What is accessible today

  • Keyboard navigation β€” interactive elements can be reached and activated with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator.
  • Screen-reader friendly markup β€” pages use semantic HTML, headings in order, and ARIA labels where helpful.
  • Reduced motionβ€” animations can be turned off from the in-app settings, and we honour the operating-system β€œreduce motion” preference.
  • Light and dark themes β€” both palettes target WCAG AA contrast for body text.
  • Resizeable text β€” text remains readable when zoomed up to 200%.

3. Known gaps

We know we are not perfect yet. The following gaps are tracked and will be filled before general release. This list will be replaced by the findings of our first independent audit.

  • Some illustrations do not yet have detailed alternative text β€” a placeholder description is used until the art team finalises copy.
  • Several lesson activities rely on drag-and-drop. A keyboard-only equivalent is on the roadmap.
  • Audio-only content (read-aloud lessons) does not yet have a text transcript on every page.

4. How to report a problem

If you find something that is hard to use β€” for you or for a child β€” please tell us. We treat accessibility issues as bugs, not nice-to-haves.

Email us at privacy@hysonlearn.com with a short description of the problem, the page where you saw it, and the device or assistive technology you were using. We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within two working days.

5. Alternative formats

If you need a lesson, a document, or any other content in a different format (large print, plain text, audio, or any other format that helps), please get in touch and we will do our best to provide it.

6. Standards and frameworks

Our target is WCAG 2.1 level AA. We also reference the principles of the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code (UK) for child-facing experiences and the equivalent guidance published by the PCPD in Hong Kong. After our first formal audit we will publish the report alongside this statement.
