Cookie Notice

Last updated: 2026-05-09

Version: 0.1-draft

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device. Cookies are commonly used to keep you signed in, to remember settings, or to measure how a site is used. Similar technologies — such as local storage — are covered by this notice as if they were cookies.

2. What cookies HysonLearn uses today

HysonLearn currently uses essential cookies only. These are required to deliver the service that you have asked for (signing in to your account, keeping you signed in across pages, and protecting against common security attacks).

NamePurposeDuration
authjs.session-tokenKeeps a signed-in user's session active. Set by Auth.js after login.Session (cleared on logout) or up to 30 days.
authjs.csrf-tokenAnti-CSRF token used to protect form submissions and authentication actions.Session.
hyson-themeStores the parent's preferred theme (light/dark/auto). Stored in localStorage rather than as a cookie.Until cleared by you.
hyson-animationsStores the “reduce motion” preference. Stored in localStorage.Until cleared by you.

Because these cookies are strictly necessary to deliver the service, we do not show a cookie consent banner. UK PECR and equivalent rules in Hong Kong allow this for essential cookies only.

3. Cookies we may add later (analytics, etc.)

If we add non-essential cookies in future — for example, a privacy-respecting analytics tool to help us understand which lessons children find difficult — we will:

  • show a clear cookie banner the first time you visit;
  • let you accept or reject non-essential cookies before any are set;
  • let you change your mind at any time from a cookie-settings page;
  • update this notice with the new cookies, their purpose, and their duration.

We will never use cookies for behavioural advertising or to profile children.

4. Managing cookies

You can clear or block cookies in your browser's settings. Blocking the essential cookies above will stop the service from working — for example, you will not be able to stay signed in.
